Adventure

Add one of these adventure options to your day trip or organise for a custom day trip including any of these options below.

Shark Cage Diving

A Shark Cage Diving Trip is arguably the ‘must do’ activity in Cape Town. There are several different operators in the scenic town of Gansbaai, but we like to work with the folks from Marine Dynamics. This professional outfit does some sterling conservation work and are world renowned for their ecological initiatives. Check out their website on www.sharkwatchsa.com.

The trip itself leaves between 05h00 and 09h00 in the morning from Cape Town, and returns in the later afternoon/ early evening. Your shark encounter will, in this time, last between 15 seconds and 30 minutes, depending on how long you want to stay in the water…

As Pieter says: “There’s a reason why people would get up at 05h30 in the morning to drive two and a half hours to spend another three hours on a very rocky boat, then another two and a half hours back to Cape Town. It’s because those 15 seconds of awesome will rock your world in a way you’ll never forget.”

Pricing starts at R1 900 per person (excluding transport). We like to put together a package including breakfast, transport, and potentially a post-shark-experience trip to taste some of the Hemel and Aarde valley wines, visit the Penguin Colony and if time allows, hike to the waterfall in Betty’s Bay on the way back as your adrenaline settles!

It’s also possible to combine the experience with a truly special gourmet lunch – click on my blog for some info on Springfontein Eats!

Cape Canopy Tour

Satisfy the adventure hunter or Indiana-Jones wannabee in you with an exciting jeep ride along beautiful wild tracks followed by the thrills of the Elgin Cape Canopy Tour’s zip lines and slides. We’ll pick you up at 07h00 and entertain you until drop off at 17h00 with a private tour guide and transport from Cape Town, a group excursion at the Elgin Cape Canopy Tour, a wine tasting in the Elgin Valley, and the possibility to drive back via the winelands and Franschhoek valley.

The Cape Canopy Tour is a must for families and adventure seekers visiting the Cape. 1.5 hours drive from Cape Town in the picturesque Elgin Valley, it is modelled on the world famous canopy tour in Monte Verde Costa Rica. However, the slides are higher and longer here and the scenery is breath-taking!

The trip starts with a wonderful half hour jeep ride up into the Overberg mountains – in itself a treat, as it follows the Boland hiking trail. The 11 different zip lines which start at an altitude of 1 000m and crisscross a gorgeous valley populated with the famous Cape Fynbos and abundant proteas, waterfalls and the stream far below.

The friendly local staff, the sheer length and thrill of the rides and the small touches along the way makes this perfect for families or adventure seeking groups.

We can customise a perfect day out to combine this adventure with a number of other activities in the area. As well as swinging from the trees, you might like to visit the Stony Point penguin colony, visit Hermanus for whale watching from the shore or a boat trip, or go mountain biking at Paul Cluver estate. Just chat to your PG TOPS consultant about your perfect day and they will hook it up for you.

Please note: There is a 20 minute hike back up to the truck after your adventure. It’s not too arduous, but a modicum of fitness and mobility will be required.

Table Mountain Hike

The ultimate experience day for fit adventure seekers! We pick you up at your hotel just before dawn and climb to the top of Table Mountain with a personal mountain guide. Platteklip Gorge is the most popular version, but we prefer India Venster – a little more technical, but superior views. Chat to your guide in the morning to determine which option is best for you.

Lion's Head Hike

Capetonians prefer this hike, as it is no more than an hour and a half up and down, with panoramic views of the city at the top. This hike can be done in the morning or evening, and easily combines with a full day of touring. Get your exercise fix in the best possible way without sacrificing sightseeing! Talk to us to add this in on your day trip.

Scootours

This is a great way to add some spice to your Cape Town city tour. The Scootours gang takes you up to Signal Hill and Table Mountain for two great downhill tracks that will thrill you, but it does not require too much technical skill. Some recent biking experience would be useful though. This is great for families with small kids, as they can share with mom or dad. Requires about 3 hours and easily combines with our half day city tour, or do it in the morning before heading out to the winelands.

Paragliding

Paragliding off Signal Hill is probably the biggest thrill we offer, outside of Shark Cage Diving. It is highly wind-dependant, so be sure to chat to your consultant and book it in for the first day of your itinerary – if it gets cancelled or move, we can then hopefully accommodate it later in the week.

Huey Helicopter tour

Pretend you are going searching for the Vietcong in the surf of Bloubergstrand, and you get the picture. This thrill-a-minute experience will have you scaring the crap out of surfers, attacking the hills in Table View and elicit whoops and shouts from everyone in the chopper – in a good way. Totally recommended.

Horse riding on Noordhoek beach

This combines with our Cape Peninsula tour. Noordhoek beach, magnificently untouched on the Atlantic Seaboard side of the peninsula, is the setting for a 1.5 hour horse ride you will never forget. Speak to your consultant about adding this in on your Cape Point trip.
