6 Day Garden Route and Addo Adventure

Day 1 Cape Town – Hermanus – Cape Agulhas

We depart from Cape Town/Stellenbosch early on Monday morning for Hermanus. We follow the Scenic Coastal road stopping at Betties Bay to view a Colony of endangered African Penguins. You can spend the afternoon in the seaside resort town of Hermanus, famous for hundreds of Southern Right Whales during the Whale season (July to November) and many shops, beaches, restaurants and Markets. In the afternoon we will drive on to Cape Agulhas (The most Southern Tip of Africa). We will visit a View Point at the most southern Tip of Africa also known as the “real” place where the Indian and Atlantic oceans meet. You will have plenty of time to have a walk down to the longest beach in the Southern Hemisphere.

Day 2 Cape Agulhas – Mossel Bay – Wilderness 

We depart for Wilderness after breakfast. We will stop in Mossel Bay for lunch and to spend some time on the spectacular beaches, hike the Cape St Blaize hiking trail along the cliffs overlooking the Indian Ocean, visit the famous Diaz Museum Complex. The more adventurous can try a 10 000 feet Tandem Skydive or Sand Boarding on the highest Dune in South Africa. Late afternoon a leisurely walk through Wilderness Village, Wilderness beach or just relaxing with a beer overlooking Wilderness beach.

Day 3 Wilderness – Knysna – Plettenberg Bay 

After breakfast overlooking Wilderness beach we head for the Touw River Waterfall in Wilderness National Park with some canoes. Enjoy a paddle up the Touw River through the indigenous forest, enjoying the abundance of birdlife. After about 40mins of easy paddling the canoes will be left for a 2km hike along a boardwalk which will take us to the waterfall, where you will be able to relax and enjoy the sounds of nature. After the canoeing we will head to the famous town of Knysna via the spectacular Lake District of the Garden Route. In this up-market little town filled with curios, restaurants and a waterfront you will be able to replenish and lose yourself. After Knysna we will head to the Knysna Heads view-point with some spectacular views over Knysna River estuary and the Indian Ocean. Late afternoon you can spend exploring Plettenberg Bay with its spectacular views and beaches.

Day 4 Plettenberg Bay –Tsitsikamma –  Addo 

After breakfast, off to Tsitsikamma National Park. En route a stop at Bloukrans Bridge to view the world’s highest bungee jump bridge (216 metres). There is plenty of time for the adventure seekers among you to test their courage. The afternoon will be spent in the National Park with its unique combination of indigenous forest and the beautiful Indian Ocean. This provides a wide choice of activities for all, including long and short hikes, crossing the suspension bridge and swimming. Late afternoon we will leave the Garden Route for Big 5 Country, Addo.

Day 5 Addo – Sedgefield ( Myoly Beach) 

The morning we will spend exploring Addo Elephant National Park. We will spend up to 4-5 hours exploring a 28 000 hectare National reserve with over 450 elephant and some Cape buffalo, lion, Black Rhino, Wart Hog, Zebra, Eland, Koedoe, Hartbeest and many more animals. After an exciting morning of Game Viewing we will drive back to the heart of the Garden Route where we will overnight and have sundowners overlooking the spectacular Myoly Beach in Sedgefield.

Day 6 Sedgefield – Oudtshoorn – Route 62 – Cape Town/Stellenbosch 

After Breakfast a drive over the spectacular Outeniqua Mountain pass to Oudtshoorn in the Little Karoo, also known as the Ostrich Capital of the World.

You will be able to experience the subterranean beauty of the Cango Caves in a guided adventure tour, followed by a visit to the Cango Ostrich Show farm for a guided tour of an ostrich farm. The more adventurous can even ride an ostrich. (maximum weight of 75 kg). In the afternoon we depart back to Cape Town via the scenic and spectacular Route 62 which is South Africa’s longest wine route. We will arrive back to Cape Town in the early evening.

Departures

This tour will depart from Cape Town and Stellenbosch any day of the week.

Booking Procedure

Should you wish to make a reservation, please let me know so that I can secure the seats for you. We will then send you a booking form that you will need to complete and return it to us by email. We require a 30% deposit to secure the reservation, with the balance due on the day of departure. You can pay by bank transfer or PayPal.

Pick Up

Guests will be picked up between 07:00 and 09:00 from accommodation establishments in Cape Town and about 09:30 in Stellenbosch. If guests do not live in Cape Town or Stellenbosch additional transport has to be arranged into the city, or guests will be picked up along the way.

Itinerary

The company reserves the right to change itinerary, accommodation, and transport along the way should circumstances dictate. Unfortunately many of these outdoor activities are weather dependant which could force changes in the itinerary. The guide will try his/her best to arrange events according to prevailing weather conditions.

Accommodation

All the accommodation en route has been selected for its unique setting, closeness to nature and great atmosphere whilst not forgetting the human need for home comforts. Accommodation at the backpackers takes the form of dormitory rooms with shared bathroom facilities. Upgrades to single and double rooms are available at an additional charge. All bedding will be provided.

Meals

All meals have been selected by management and include traditional South African meals. Breakfast would normally be a combination of healthy continental breakfast with fruits, cereals, yoghurt and toast or cooked breakfasts. Please advise us of any special dietary requirements in advance. Lunch would be for own account.

Vehicle

The vehicle that we will be driving will depend on the number of people. We have a Mercedes Vito, Toyota Quantum and a BMW Sedan. All vehicles have air conditioning and CD players.

Payment

A deposit of 30% is payable on confirmation of booking. Balance is payable on day of departure in cash; or the full amount via bank transfer.

Insurance

It is strongly recommended that you hold comprehensive travel insurance to safeguard you against possible unforeseen emergencies. PG Tops Travel and Tours has comprehensive passenger and public liability insurance.

Exclusion of liability

PG Tops Travel and Tours, or its employees and agents shall not be responsible for and shall be exempt from any liability in respect of loss, damage, injury, accident, delay or inconvenience to any person or their luggage or other personal property under any circumstances whatsoever whilst on tour.

Cancellation Policy

We reserve the right to cancel any booking on any grounds we feel necessary and will honor no liability in doing so.

What do you need?

A love for nature, an adventurous spirit and a good sense of humor. Of course it would not be a bad thing to bring along a rain jacket, camera, swimming clothes, sun screen, towel, hat, warm jacket and personal toiletries.

Malaria

Our tours take place in a malaria free area. No anti-malaria precautions are therefore necessary. You are however advised to bring insect repellent during summer.
